Racing this Sunday

Racing is on this coming Sunday, with a briefing at midday. (Skippers registration link)  This is our first race day of the summer season and is a class championship day.  So if you want to be in the running for a t-shirt, then pick your boat class and use that for every championship day.  (Which will be (mostly) every second race day)

Juniors and adults new to sailing will have a separate start and course – they’ll need to register with the above link too.  (This is intended for people who have recently attended one of our courses)

We have Manly Juniors and Pacers available for hire for the day, please use the hire links on our website.  (Note that someone will need to approve the hire and you must be a member.  You’ll also need to register.)

We’re having a sausage sizzle after the race.

The summer season roster is here.  (Everyone please help out the day, if you have time)

Note that all times are NSW.

On Sunday, if you’d be interested in crewing (no experience necessary) then please fill in this form. A skipper may get in touch with you. Or come along on the day (the earlier the better) to see if you can find a ride. Details on what to bring are here. Skippers, your list of the available crew is here.

We have a lot of events coming up, so please take a look at the Calendar.

This Saturday is a Juniors Manly Junior practice day

On the weekend of the 22/23rd of October, Big River is holding their single handed regatta.

On Saturday the 29th of October, Ballina (Richmond River) is holding the long race as part of their Annual Regatta.  A number of TVSC boats are attending.  The more the merrier!

See you Sunday!

Junior Sailing – Season 2022-23

Sunday 9 Oct 2022

Fortunately, the forecast rain did not eventuate, and several kids and parents helped rig three of the Club’s Manly Juniors and launched them for a practice sail in the fresh northerly breeze.

Apologies to the juniors who did not receive the text about this.

The MJs are a lively boat for two juniors to sail, with jib and spinnaker. It is hoped that the Club’s six X3s and the seven MJs will be the basis of a strong Junior fleet for the season starting next weekend. Juniors having their own boats will, of course, be welcome to sail them. Those booking club boats must rig, look after them and help with any repairs needed.

2nd MJ Practice Day – 8.30-11.30am Saturday 15th October 2022

This will be the second Practice Morning before the club starts the next day’s new season. Register here.

  • 08:30 Sign on and Rigging, DON’T FORGET THE BUNGS!
  • 09:00 Briefing,
    • Ensure you have appropriate sailing gear, life jacket, sunscreen etc.
    • Sailing when rescue boat is on the water.
  • 11:00 Return to shore and unrig.
  • 11:20 Debriefing

First Race Day. Sunday 16th Oct 2022.

The Juniors and Green (new adult sailors) Fleet will start shortly after the Senior Race and sail a shorter course (details at the briefing). A Junior Pointscore is to be held throughout the season (usually won by the most improved crew), and Club Junior Championship heats.

Class yardsticks and a handicap system will apply.

Normal Sailing rules will apply except for the “Outside Assistance” rule, as coaching and assistance will be provided as required. However, it is up to the crew to ensure their boat is properly rigged before sailing.

It is anticipated that Juniors will race EVERY SUNDAY up to and including Sunday 11th Dec 2022 then restart after Christmas on Sunday 8th January 2023.

Skippers for each boat need to “hire” a boat and register to enter. The hire link is on our website, along with registration for each event.

Race Day Program:

  • 11:00 Rigging
  • 12:00 Briefing
  • 13:00 Race Start
  • 15:00 Race Finishes, return to shore, unrig, boats and gear stored.
  • 16:00 Sausage Sizzle and Results.

Saturday SheSails Race Day 30 July 2022

With a Southerly of 15 knots, 4 pacers and a laser headed out, sailing a triangle course.

Brennan and Murielle’s daughter, Erica, supported us all on the safety boat, setting the course, and doing an excellent job with 5 minute starts.

Two races were held with 4 pacer teams and Pancho on the club laser.

Participants were club members Julie, Murielle, Debbie and first timer Kody, with club members John, Lex, Maddie and Monique, giving assistance.

The last two SheSails Saturdays have been provided for participants of our SheSails courses, to give them the opportunity to learn the rules of racing so they can participate in this year’s Summer series.

What happens on the water, stays on the water …. that’s all we are saying! Lots of laughs, and Pancho practicing capsizing on his second time on the laser.

Thanks for volunteers – Brennan, Lex, John and Monique for their continued assistance in sharing their passion of sailing.
