COURSE FULL Adults Introduction to Sailing Weekend 14/15th September 2024

Come and experience a 2 day Introduction to Sailing Course at Tweed Valley Sailing Club, main boat harbour, Fingal Road, Fingal. Held over one weekend from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm each day. Open to 10 pax only (over 17 years of age).
Participant requirements: Over 17 years of age, be an efficient swimmer, fitness level – quite agile (there is a lot of ducking and bending, pushing and pulling). Not recommended for people with back or knee issues.
What you will learn:
Preparation: appropriate clothing to suit conditions, identify and use safety equipment, demonstrate an understanding of the need for protection from environmental elements.
Boats and equipment and ropework: rig a pacer and corsair with assistance, identify the commonly used parts of the boat, tie a figure of 8 knot and bowline.
Skills and techniques: launch and recover boat with assistance, correctly tack and stop the boat, sucessfully sail a windward/broad beach course.
Sailing theory: port/starboard, windward/leeward, and overtaking vessels.
Meteorology and Tides: identify the wind direction and able to source weather forecasts.
Safety and emergency: participate in single boat towing and perform capsize recovery in shallow water.
Club will supply lifejackets and we do have some water boots we can loan. Safety boats will be on the water for your protection.
What to bring: ENTHUSIASM AND A SMILE, Sunscreen, hat, wet shirt (long sleeve ideally), shorts or long pants (expect to get them wet), shoes you can get wet, change of clothes into warmer clothes, snacks, water and lunch.
Course starts at 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, breaking for lunch around 12:15 pm for no longer than 45 mins. Please ensure to bring your lunch as you will not have enough time to go away and purchase food.
Cost: $250 for the 2 days, which includes club membership for a year (year finishes 30 September 2025). Membership will give you access to hire the club boats once you are deemed competent, and allows you to start sailing in club races (fortnightly).
Registration will not be confirmed until full payment has been made. These courses fill very quickly, so register now to avoid missing out.
Course is run by club coaches and experienced club members. We are all volunteers.
